Let’s face it, sometimes the styles in our homes become a little out-dated and boring. We want to fix things up a bit in the main living areas, but are unsure where to start. Don’t go rushing off to the store just yet, because there are some simple things you can do to improve the design of your living room without buying more accessories and without hiring a designer.
Here are three quick tips when re-designing your living room:
1.) Swap out the carpet
Many of us have carpet that might be, let’s say, a little weathered and worn. The walk ways are getting thinner and the color is fading and doesn’t even match the room anymore. It can be tricky to know how to remove carpet, but don’t worry, it is possible to do on your own! It doesn’t take a professional and most times you can save some money by just doing it yourself.
2.) Move around some furniture
Sometimes all you need to do is rearrange the furniture. You can get a completely different look just by moving some pieces of furniture around, no new purchases necessary. The entire feel of the room can be drastically improved by just changing the focal point of the room. Instead of the couches and chairs focusing on the television, why not try bring the focus to the fire place, or to a nice piece of art?
3.) Change the color scheme
You can change the entire look of your living room by re-painting the walls (or even just one!) If you’re not looking to change the room that drastically, you can also swap out different colored pillows and curtains in place of the older ones for a new fresh look. Different colors and styles of candles can be used as a quick-fix for decorating the coffee tables. Add a nice rug that matches the new color scheme and grab some colorful flowers from the garden to place above the mantle or on an end-table.
It doesn’t take much to change the look of your living area, and with these simple tips you can have a fresh new look in no time (maybe even before lunch!)
